Martha Rogala
Each work of art begins with my sensitivity to and appreciation for the environment in which the composition is first conceptualized. Primarily a plein air painter, the light draws me to work outside whether it is on preliminary sketches or completed paintings. The effects that light and atmosphere have on our perception of forms and space are constantly changing and inviting further exploration.
Primarily a teacher of the visual arts for the past 30 years, I have experimented and taught using a variety of media.  Since my retirement from the public schools, I have had more time to pursue my love of painting, while continuing to teach occasional classes to smaller groups (drawing, painting, and, since 2021 -- yoga).  My goal as an artist and teacher is to share my connection to our environment and the fleeting moments of awe, with the viewer to help them connect or reconnect with the natural wonders around us.
